QUEENSRŸCHE Comment On RHINO Signing, Upcoming Album
July 29, 2005Rhino Entertainment has announced the signing of progressive metal band QUEENSRŸCHE. The band is working on "Operation: Mindcrime II" — the sequel to their platinum 1988 concept album, "Operation: Mindcrime" — for release on Rhino early in 2006.
The announcement was made by Rhino Entertainment President Scott Pascucci. "We are excited to be working with an artistically ambitious and commercially successful band like QUEENSRŸCHE," says Pascucci. "The original 'Operation: Mindcrime' still resonates today and we are looking forward to releasing its sequel."
"This partnership is a great fit for everyone," says QUEENSRŸCHE vocalist Geoff Tate. "Rhino has an amazing team and we are confident they will do a superb job with 'Operation: Mindcrime II'."
Tate, guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone, bassist Eddie Jackson, and drummer Scott Rockenfield whet the public's appetite for "Operation: Mindcrime II" earlier this year. During the quintet's sold-out tour, QUEENSRŸCHE performed "Operation: Mindcrime" in its entirety for the first time in 15 years. The band just got off the road with JUDAS PRIEST and will be hitting road again this September/October — for a full itinerary visit www.queenryche.com. Rhino's Senior Director of Marketing, Kenny Nemes, who brought the project to Rhino and has a longstanding relationship with the band, will oversee "Operation: Mindcrime II".
Since its formation in 1981 near Seattle, QUEENSRŸCHE has released eight studio albums and have sold more than 10 million records worldwide. "Empire", the 1990 follow-up to "Operation: Mindcrime", sold more than three million copies thanks in part to the enormous success of the songs "Silent Lucidity" and "Jet City Woman". Released in 1994, "Promised Land" was certified platinum and featured the hits "I Am I" and "Bridge". In a recent USA Today readers poll, QUEENSRŸCHE was ranked eighth on the list of "Greatest American Rock Bands Of All Time."
